Nigerian gov't urged to help four kidnapped Thais
BANGKOK, August 11 (TNA) - Thailand’s Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul says investigation is ongoing into the abduction of four Thai nationals in southern Nigeria, adding their fate was still undetermined.
Updated reports indicated that a group of kidnappers on a boat attacked the four Thais and two other Nigerians on Friday, as they headed for work at a fish farm in Buguma.
One of the two Nigerians who tried to escape was reportedly killed. The state agriculture commissioner in Nigeria was quoted saying so far no contact had yet been made and the incident was believed to be ransom kidnapping.
The Thai foreign minister said he had ordered Narong Sasitorn, director-general of the Ministry’s South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs Department, to contact the Nigerian Ambassador to Thailand on the issue, and had urged the Nigerian government to expedite rescue work. (TNA)
