Thailand calls for immediate end to violence in Egypt

BANGKOK, August 16 (TNA) - The website of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs posts a statement of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul on Friday, calling for all parties to exercise utmost restraint and refrain from all acts of violence. In response to ongoing bloody political unrest in Cairo, Egypt's capital, Surapong indicated in the statement that Thailand, as a longstanding friend of Egypt, are deeply concerned at the use of forces which led to several hundreds of deaths and injuries. As the situation in Egypt remains fragile, Surapong said, Thailand would like to call for all parties to exercise utmost restraint and refrain from all acts of violence. From Thailand's own experience, Surapong acknowledged, the use of violence does not solve any difference and Bangkok, thus, calls on an immediate end to violence and for all parties to make their utmost efforts to resume an inclusive process of dialogue, which will allow the democratic transition in Egypt to move forward as soon as possible.
