Rohani: Stop Suppressing Egypt, Stick To Islamic Democracy

Tehran, Aug 17, IRNA – Iran's President Hassan Rohani referring to the ongoing deadly events in Egypt, sympathized with the nation and warned that country’s military commanders to stop suppressing that great, freedom seeking nation. The head of the 11th government made the comment during his Thursday evening address at the Iranian Islamic Parliament’s open session in defense of his proposed cabinet ministers. “I feel obliged to hereby condole with the great Egyptian nation for the vast wave of the unleashed brutalities against them, and to express deep sympathy with them,” said the Iranian president. Rohani also reiterated that he felt obliged to warn the Egyptian military commanders to stop suppressing the great freedom-seeking Egyptian nation and to choose the dialogue path for crisis solving in that important Islamic country. “The Egyptian nation’s path is the path towards democracy and embracing Islam and the entire world nations should respect the path that the Egyptian nation has chosen,” he said, after furthermore sympathizing with the Egyptian nation. The Iranian Foreign Ministry, too, on Thursday condemned the vast-scale massacre and severe suppression of Egyptian protesters as unacceptable, saying that the enemies of Egypt are trying to push the country into civil war. “Blocking the Egyptian peoples peaceful gatherings and shedding their blood are not fit for the Islamic and civilized society of Egypt,” Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on Thursday. He added that the enemies of the Egyptian nation are plotting to plunge the country into a civil war , and stressed, “The Egyptian army must remain strong for confrontation with the Zionist regime.” Amir Abdollahian also urged the opposing sides in Egypt to immediately return to the path of democracy and resort to negotiations aimed at resolving the internal disputes in their country./end
