Indonesia’s National Day celebrated in Thailand

BANGKOK, August 17 (TNA) - Indonesians in Thailand joined a celebration today (August 17) to mark the 68th anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day at the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok. The event, presided over by Indonesian Ambassador to Thailand H.E. Mr. Lutfi Rauf, began with marching of selected students and the flag hoisting ceremony. After the singing of the national anthem or Indonesia Raya, which means “Great Indonesia”, Indonesians joining the event observed a moment of silence of those who lost their lives in fighting for the nation’s freedom from the Dutch colonial rule. Cultural shows and music performances were also part of the celebration. Indonesia declared its independency from the Netherlands in 1945, before the Netherlands recognized Indonesian Independence in 1949. (TNA)
