MEDUSA GOLD INTRODUCES "TYPICAL MALAY FOOD" IN NEW MENU TO WOO FOREIGN TOURISTS By Zuraida Abdul Rahman

PENANG (Malaysia), Nov 11 (Bernama) -- Medusa Gold Restaurant & Bistro, a
popular entertainment-cum-tourist joint at Persiaran Gurney here is diversifying
its menu to introduce typical Malay food and nasi padang to foreign tourists
patronising the restaurant owned by Syazanaz Multi Corporation (M) Sdn
Bhd.

After becoming a household name here for "steamboat" ginseng and halal dim
sum, "pizza rangup" (crispy pizza) and a variety of sumptuous Italian dishes
that suit the taste of foreign tourists, Medusa Gold is to add new items to whet
the appetite of its customers comprising tourists and expatriates from many
countries working and residing in Penang.

Syazanaz managing director Che Azman Zainal Abidin says the menu to be
introduced this time will be typical Malay food like "nasi berlauk" (meat or
fish eaten with rice), "ulam-ulaman" (leaves, herbs and fruits eaten raw with
rice), various types of rendang (food made of seasoned or spiced meat with
coconut milk added to it and cooked until dry), especially "rendang tok" and
meat, fish or vegetables synonymous with nasi padang.

Among the "special menu" to be served is the "ala nyonya" fish head curry
in
claypot with "asam pedas ikan pari", he said.

"We'll start serving the new menu from Saturday," he told Bernama.

He said steamboat and dim sum are the favourite dishes of the Chinese,
Japanese and Koreans and those who like hot and spicy food while the pizza and
Italian food are a hit among European tourists.

Meat or fish eaten with rice and nasi padang are very much liked by
penangites and tourists from neighbouring countries while food with spice,
condiments, seasoning ingredients and herbs are favoured by tourists from the
Middle East," he said.

To enable patrons to savour the new menu for lunch, Che Azman said Medusa
Gold will open early for business, at 10am and not at 5pm as before, and will
close at 1am.

He said "nasi berlauk" will be served for lunch while pizza, Italian food,
"steamboat" and dim sum in the evening until late night.

Patrons will also be entertained by "live band" with talented local
musicians and artistes belting out popular numbers.

"We've succeeded in our target to woo foreigners and professionals working
and residing here to patronise Medusa Gold and use it as a meeting place for
business discussions, to relax and rest," he said.

Che Azman said Syazanaz has also teamed up with several leading hotels in
Penang in providing "accommodation and food" packages for foreign tourists to
bolster the state's tourism industry.

"Tourists staying at certain hotels will have the opportunity to visit our
restaurant and help themselves with the special menu. Tourists who come to our
restaurant on their own, we'll recommend them the right hotel to stay," he said.

Che Azman also said no matter what business is introduced at the
restaurant,
Syazanaz never forgets its social obligation to train local entrepreneurs keen
to operate restaurants, run food and beverage business and venture into the
tourism industry.

"We'll provide them on-the-job training in their chosen field so that
Bumiputeras can go into business. They should seize the opportunity provided by
the government through various incentive schemes to start a business," he added.
