1 Japanese tourist killed, 12 injured in bus accident in Malaysia

TOKYO, Nov. 11 Kyodo - An 83-year-old Japanese man was killed and 12 other Japanese injured in
Malaysia on Tuesday after their sightseeing bus crashed and overturned, the
travel agency which organized the tour said.
Thirteen Japanese tourists and their Japanese tour guide were aboard the bus
with two Malaysians -- the driver and a Japanese-speaking guide.
Tokyo-based World Air-Sea Service Co. said a Japanese man from Nagano
Prefecture, who Malaysian police later identified as Nehito Shibata, was
killed.
Twelve other Japanese suffered serious or slight injuries and two of them -- a
69-year-old woman from Kanagawa Prefecture and a 27-year-old guide -- were
hospitalized, according to the agency.
Malaysian police told Kyodo News that the two Malaysians were also injured in
the accident, which occurred at around 2:30 p.m. on a highway in the southern
state of Johor.
They said the bus, which was carrying a total of 16 people from the historic
city of Malacca to the beach resort of Desaru, crashed into the side of the
road and overturned after its driver swerved to avoid another vehicle on the
road, which was slippery due to rain.
The Japanese were participating in a six-day package tour.
