Iran-Turkmenistan Speakers Confer

Ashgabat, Sept 7, IRNA – Iran Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and his Turkmen counterpart Akja Nurberdiyeva underlined expansion of bilateral ties in all fields on Friday. Nurberdiyeva called relations between the two countries old and historical, adding that Turkeminstan calls for expansion of trade, cultural and economic relations with the powerful country of Iran. She continued that Iran is one of closest friends of Turkmenistan and one of the first countries which recognized independence of Turkmenistan. The Turkmen senior official said that foreign policy of Turkmenistan president is based upon expansion of ties with different states, adding we hope that in this period we witness expansion of relations with Iran in different fields. She praised Iran’s plans for fight against terrorism and drug smuggling, adding that Turkmenistan supports these acts of Iran which are beneficial for the whole region. Referring to a number of big projects in Turkmenistan, Akja Nurberdiyeva said that Iran-Turkmenistan railways will be inaugurated. She expressed hope that a big opening ceremony would be held in the presence of senior officials of both countries. Referring to Iran’s scientific-industrial progress in recent years, the Turkman official called for Iran's participation in her country's big projects. She also called for more relations between the two parliaments. Ali Larijani, for his part, expressed pleasure with his visit to Turkmenistan and said that relations between the two countries have old and historical roots, which had been maintained in different situations. Underlining expansion of ties between Tehran and Ashgabat, Larijani said that presence of Turkmenistan president in oath taking ceremony of President Hassan Rohani showed depth of friendly relations between the two countries./end
