Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations Office at Geneva and international organizations L.Orgil gave a speech at the 24th Session of the Human Rights Council. It kicked off Monday in Geneva, Switzerland. Mr Orgil appealed to the international community to accept the UN report about an existence of capital punishment in some countries, which poses a threat to human rights, and to contribute to the deeds of abolishing the death penalty. He said Mongolia ratified the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, aiming at the abolition of the death penalty, fruitfully organized the 7th Ministerial Conference of the Community of Democracies (CoD), and is collaborating with special mandate holders of human rights. Mr Orgil also expressed a regret at deaths of many civilians, including children and women, in Syria due to the clashes worsening in the country, and emphasized that it is urgent for the international community to take measures for stopping the clashes. If it is confirmed that any side in Syria used a chemical weapon, it would be named as the severe crime against humanity, Mr Orgil said and emphasized again that the UN Security Council must take measures and hold the guilty liable. He also said that the government of Mongolia will continue supporting the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. The Session will last until September 27 of 2013.
