GROWTH TARGET ACHIEVABLE IF PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED ON SCHEDULE, SAYS M`SIAN DPM
PUTRAJAYA, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will achieve its growth target for
this year and next year if projects listed in the RM7 billion (US$2
billion)fiscal stimulus package are implemented on schedule, Deputy Prime
Minister Najib
Razak said Wednesday.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the revised 3.5 percent growth target
for next year can be achieved, said Najib, who is also Finance Minister.
The macro targets are achievable as the external economies have not slide
to
recession level, he told reporters after launching Carrefour Malaysia's "Price
Cut Campaign".
Najib had on Nov 4 announced a RM7 billion fiscal stimulus package to steer
the country's economy from the impact of the global turbulent economic and
financial crisis.
The Deputy Prime Minister said he expected the region, including Malaysia,
to benefit from the US$586 billion fiscal stimulus package announced by China on
Monday.
He said China imported a lot of products and commodities from Malaysia.
Earlier, Carrefour Malaysia/Singapore Managing Director Shafie Shamsuddin
said the nationwide price cut campaign was in response to the government's call
for retailers to participate in the campaign as a way of reciprocating to the
recent reduction in petrol and diesel prices.
He said the campaign entails the reduction of prices of 1,000 essentials
including vegetables, fish, chicken, meat, dry goods and home-related items.
Shafie said the 15 Carrefour outlets nationwide would enforce the price
reduction from today and would remain in force for six months.
Carrefour Malaysia is a leading hypermarket chain selling a wide range of
household grocery products ranging from frozen goods and fresh products to
textiles, garments and shoes, electrical goods such as home kitchen and
audio-visual appliances.
