Thailand, Japan cooperate on water management
BANGKOK, September 20 (TNA) - Thailand and Japan have successfully joined forces to work out a water management plan for the Chao Phraya River basin.
Lertviroj Kowattana, Director-General of Thailand's Royal Irrigation Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, announced the Thai-Japanese cooperation in Bangkok on Friday morning, at a seminar on flood risks in the Chao Phraya River basin jointly organized by his department and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), as well as relevant agencies.
Lertviroj acknowledged that Japan has supported water management and disaster warning projects in Thailand, through transfers of its advanced technologies for accurate forecasts.
According to the senior official, Thailand and Japan have also jointly reviewed a master plan to prevent floods in the Chao Phraya River basin. (TNA)
