Lubna Al Qasimi discusses cooperation with UN Women, meets Amos

New York, NY: Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Development and International Co-operation, has discussed with Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), ways to empower Arab women in the region, and UAE efforts in this respect.
Sheikh Lubna met Mlambo-Ngcuka at the sidelines of the 68th session of the UN general assembly in New York.
The UAE minister stressed that her country was continuing and coordinating efforts with different competent international organisations to upgrade strategies so as to empower the Arab woman. Meanwhile, the UN official briefed Sheikha Lubna about the work mechanisms of UN Women programmes, lauding the UAE's women empowerment experience.
The meeting attended by UAE Permanent Representative to UN, Ambassador Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the UAE and UN women programmes.
Sheikha Lubna also met Baroness Valerie Amos, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator. They discussed cooperation between the UAE and UN to coordinate humanitarian work. Baroness Amos briefed Sheikha Lubna about the humanitarian affairs in Syria and Yemen, thanking the UAE for its efforts in those areas.
She also met Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama, Fernando Nunez Fabrega. They discussed cooperation. Sheikh Lubna also met Minister of Foreign Affairs of Grenada, Nicholas Steel. They discussed the reconstruction of bicameral parliament in Grenada. The UAE and Australia co-financed the project.
The UAE minister also attended the Ministerial meeting of Alliance for Civilizations (UNAOC), entitled: "Global Harmony for Development and Prosperity".
