NAJIB MUST THINK WHETHER TO IMPLEMENT MEGA PROJECTS, SAYS DR M

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- Former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad says mega projects proposed before will become "catalyst" to the country's economic
growth.

He said Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak should think whether to continue
the projects after helming the government administration.

"He can consider whether it is better to stop or to continue. We've been
implementing the projects for several years, there seem to be no losses," he
said when asked whether Najib should continue with the mega projects after
becoming prime minister next year in accordance with the leadership transition
plan.

Under the plan, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will step down as prime minister and
Umno president in March next year.

Earlier, Dr Mahathir, who delivered a keynote address at the Kuala Lumpur
International Trade Forum 2008, said the government has sufficient funds
to implement mega projects for the country's development.

"If there is no money, I don't believe. When I retired before, I made sure
the government has enough money. I did not steal even a sen," he said.

Dr Mahathir said stopping all mega projects would slow down the
economy.

"Every time the government spends money for mega projects, many people,
including contractors, sub-contractors, suppliers and workers, will make money.

"Nasi lemak sellers will also make money. When the projects are stopped,
all
these people will also stop. Hence, this way is not a wise move," he added.
