International scientific conference held for birth anniversary of famous scholar

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ An international scientific conference titled "Development of Mongolian science and higher education and Academician N.Sodnom" was held last Friday in the round hall of the Mongolian State University (MSU). Co-organized by the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS) and the Institute of Education, the conference was dedicated to the 90th birth anniversary of academician N.Sodnom, and it has attracted many Mongolian and foreign scientists including B.Enkhtuvshin, the MAS president; N.Begz, director of the the Institute of Education; S.Davaa, director of the Nuclear Research Center at the MSU; A.Yu.Rozanov and Ye.A.Krasavin, members of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Tu.Olzii, a professor from the People's Republic China. The participants at the conference highlighted that the academician N.Sodnom was one of the alumni of the MSU, earning a higher education in Mongolia. He also was one of the co-founders of the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST), and was recognized by the world's scholars as a famous scientist of nuclear physics. Moreover, he was the first Mongolia to defend a doctor degree on nuclear physics in the Lomonosov Moscow State University. He also signed a contract on establishing the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna representing the Mongolian government in 1956.
