Sayaboury’s export rises by 16 per cent

(KPL) Sayaboury province’s export in the last twelve months amounted to US$ 31 million, an increase of 16 per cent over last year.
The agricultural produce shared 76 per cent of the entire exports of this northwestern province. The produce included 211,956 tonnes maize, bringing in over US$ 24 million; 4,540 tonnes of Job’s tear (US$ 234,554), 18 tonnes of sesame (US$ 5,600) and 1,160 tonnes of jute (US$ 331,100). Besides the agriculture produce, non-timber forest products are another potential export of the province, bringing in over US$ 550,700.
The province also exported some industrial products to Thailand, China and Vietnam, said Head of Industry and Commerce Service of Province, Mr Somedy Souksavath.
Over US$ 20 million of goods were imported to the province last year. Most of them were consumer goods, construction materials and machinery, vehicles, electric appliances and oil.
