Luang Prabang encourages ethnic people in eco-tourism service

(KPL) The Luang Prabang Province Tourism Service inked a memorandum of understanding with the administrations of five villages to develop eco-tourism.
The signatories to the document were Vice-Director of the Luang Prabang Province Tourism Service, Mr Khamtanh Somphanvilay, and authorities of the five villages, Luang Prabang district.
Eco-tourism has picked significantly in recent years. This kind of tourism attracts a number of both domestic and foreign visitors to the province.
The five villages are Xienglome, Phonsavad, Houaifay, Houai—nhen and Enesavanh.
“Ethnic people should take into account of the preservation of their potential tourist sites to attract tourists for their better income generation and poverty reduction,” said the Vice-Director of the Luang Prabang Province Tourism Service, Mr Khamtanh Somphanvilay.
The project as well as the provincial authorities has encouraged local villagers in the production of traditional products like handicraft items and preserve their livelihood.
This eco-tourism project is designed to contribute to improved living condition of local ethnic people.
It promotes the locals to participate in managing tourism and preserve their culture and natural resources for a sustainable tourism development.
Eco-tourism is another kind of tourism in which communities or villagers and benefit from participating in tourism service such as providing home-stay services for tourists and helping them experience the real way of local life.
