THREE M`SIAN GOLFERS TO TEE OFF AT WORLD FINAL IN ARGENTINA
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- Three Malaysian amateur golfers who
emerged winners of their respective categories during the BMW Golf Cup
International (Malaysia) earned their tickets to the World Final held at Jockey
Club, Buenos Aires in Argentina from Dec 1-6.
BMW Malaysia Sdn Bhd managing director Geoffrey Briscoe said Tan Kai Lim
winner of the Men's A, Yau Wai Heng (Men's B) and Ong Gim Hong (Women's)
categories during the national final held at the Mines Resort and Golf Cub here,
recently earned the trip.
"The overwhelming response and fantastic success of our golfers at the
World Final last year has proven that Malaysian amateur golfers are able to
compete against the best in the world.
"We look forward to another great performance by our Malaysian finalists in
Argentina this December," Briscoe said in a statement, here Friday.
The Jockey Club is known for its high index of challenges as the 36-hole
facility is regarded as one of the most renowned golfing venues in South
America.
The best three players from each participating country will compete for the
title `Best Amateur Golfer in the BMW Golf Cup International.'
More than 120,000 golfers from over 50 different countries attempt to
qualify for the final by participating in over 1,000 tournaments
worldwide.
A total of 661 player's, champions of the six qualifying rounds held across
Malaysia participated in the National Final, a tournament played according to
R&A golf rules.
Established in 1987 as a series for amateur tournaments in Germany, the BMW
Golf Cup International has since developed into the largest, most prestigious
and most successful amateur tournament in the world.
The Malaysian tournament series was made open to amateur-status golf
enthusiasts who are owners of BMW cars and who played in a club that belongs to
an internationally recognised local golfing association.
