V.Olziibayar delivers speech at UNGA debate

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A Deputy Director of the Foreign Department of International Organizations Ms V.Olziibayar Thursday delivered a speech at the 2nd Committee’s general debate of the 68th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, USA. She underlined an importance of a final document released by a recent summit on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to conclude a present situation of the global sustainable development and determine development programme after 2015. She expressed a hope that the intergovernmental experts’ committee on sustainable development, established by the Rio+20 Conference, will play a vital role in tackling a financial matter for the sustainable development. Mentioning about the economic growth of Mongolia, challenges, environmental problems such as desertification, soil deterioration, water shortage and air pollution in urban areas, she said our government submitted to parliament a national programme "Concept of Green Development", considering the "green" economy as one of the pillars of the sustainable development. Ms Olziibayar also noted that Mongolia stands on position to resolve various problems facing the landlocked developing countries, and underlined that member-states of the Almaty Programme of Action should ensure preparations for a conference on the programme’s implementation. Then she urged the countries to realize recommendations reflected in the UN Secretary-General’s report on the programme. Ms Olziibayar said she is confident that a forthcoming WTO Ministerial Conference to be held December in Indonesia will make a decision to contribute to resolving problems in the Doha Development Round (DDR).
