SIRIM OFFERS SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY EXPERTISE TO DEVELOPING, POST-WAR NATIONS

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- Sirim Bhd, a research institution in
Malaysia, is offering technical and technological expertise to developing and
post-war countries, says its president and chief executive Ir Yahaya
Ahmad.

He said the services are being extended to Islamic nations like Iran, Oman
and Yemen, Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbeans, Commonwealth of Independent
States (CIS) like Kazakhstan and Krygystan and Afghanistan, a post-war
nation.

"SIRIM is focusing on these countries due to high demand for consultancy
services, particularly in technical and technological fields," he said in a
statement.

Yahaya said post-war countries like Afghanistan and Yemen had confidence in
Sirim's capabilities to provide advisory service in rebuilding laboratories and
technological facilities destroyed in the war.

SIRIM, also a quality certification institution, was working with an
Iranian
research organisation "Research Institute of Petroleum Industry" to learn oil,
gas and petrochemical technology and share technical know-how and training
related to standards and accreditation with the Institute of Standards and
Industrial Research of Iran, he added.

Established in 1996, SIRIM, a state-owned company under the Minister of
Finance Incorporated, conducts research in science and technology
disciplines.
