Chennai Monorail Gathers Pace

NEW DELHI (India), Oct 24 (Bernama) -- The monorail project in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, is gathering pace as the transport department floated its final tender for the construction of the project. "Only those qualified during RFQ (Request for Qualification) were given access to the document," The Times of India reported quoting an unnamed transport official. The bid would have detailed layout of what is required of the bidder. "The bid will close in a month and we will choose the contractor two months from now," said the official. India's IL&FS Transportation Network Ltd-Scomi Engineering Bhd consortium is one of two companies that are running for the Rs8,550 crore (US$1.46 billion) 57.1 km monorail project in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. --BERNAMA
