LATEST INFO ON INTERIOR AREAS IN EAST MALAYSIA STATES AVAILABLE VIA INTERNET

KUCHING (Malaysia), Nov 15 (Bernama) -- Problems in getting information on the interior areas, especially those in East Malaysia states of Sabah and Sarawak, through the Internet are expected to be addressed soon through a universal services provision (USP) programme.

The programme is provided by a local company, Softbox Sdn Bhd, which is
gathering and updating information on the affected areas for input in the
Energy, Water and Communications Ministry's website.

Head of the company's research group Kamaruddin Abu Bakar said the updating
of data and information into the ministry's website was carried out through 510
rural libraries nationwide.

The company had been entrusted with setting up of the Community Website,
which will have all information on the affected areas, including population,
historical background, tourist destinations and infrastructure facilities, he
added.

Kamaruddin said the data and information in the website would be updated
every three months.

"Our role is to ensure that these places, which are in the interior areas,
are known to the world," he added.
