Boys has lucky escape after snake bite

AAP - An 11-year-old boy bitten by a tiger snake reckons it is great to be the only kid he knows who has, his father says.

Cameron Munro is now recovering in the Royal Children's Hospital after spending
Friday night in the intensive care unit following his run-in with the venomous snake
while walking a dog with friends at a track in Greensborough, in Melbourne's north.
His father Brad said that Cameron was bitten on his right leg between his ankle and
knee after he accidentally trod on the snake which had been resting near the path
around 6pm (AEDT) on Friday.
A friend's mother was with him and a passing jogger gave up his T-shirt to use as a
tourniquet while the woman drove Cameron to a medical centre where he was met by
paramedics.
"He was very sick, vomiting with a high temperature and losing consciousness," Mr
Munro said.
"There was an extremely high level of toxin in his body."
He said his son was given anti-venom when he arrived at the hospital and another
dose at 2am on Saturday after being slow to respond.
"He will spend another week in hospital and he's still suffering from cramps and
joint soreness," Mr Munro said.
"But he reckons it's great - he's the only kid he knows who's been bitten by a tiger
snake."
Mr Munro said his nine-year-old daughter Emily, who was with Cameron, said she saw
the snake slithering back into the bush.
"It's a timely warning for everybody to be careful - it's very dry and these snakes
are out looking for food and water," Mr Munro said.
A hospital spokeswoman earlier on Saturday said Cameron was in a stable condition.
Late on Saturday afternoon, as he was moved out of intensive care, Cameron recounted
the moment he was bitten by the snake.
"I walked down this dip which the dog jumped over, so I didn't think there was
anything in there and I pretty much hit the snake and it jumped on me and bit me on
the leg," he told the Nine Network.
"Really sore, I've got a lot of throbbing all up my leg and it stings where it (the
snake) actually injected me but I've had two doses of anti-venom so that's done its
job.
"I'm on the mend, so yes, it feels good. I am pretty happy now."
