Gul: Conditions Favorable To Resolve Iran’s N-issue

Istanbul, Nov 2, IRNA -- Turkey’s President Abdullah Gul said here on Friday that conditions are favorable to resolve Iran’s nuclear issue through talks. He made the remarks in the opening ceremony of Nuclear Disarmament and International Security (Paguash) meeting here on Friday. President Gul added that beginning of talks between Iran and the USA was an issue that we were waiting for years and we were very glad to hear about the telephone conversation between President Barak Obama and President Hassan Rohani during UN General Assembly meeting in New York and we welcome the news. He added that we wish this move could be a good beginning for establishment of security in the region. Elsewhere In his speech, President Gul said that today meeting is held in order to discuss disarmament of weapons of mass destruction. President Gul said that Paguash is one of the important establishments to confront with war, adding that a number of countries want to use weapons of mass destruction as a strategic weapon, but all countries in the world should be free of mass destruction and nuclear weapons and mankind should get rid of this disaster. In the 4-day meeting, delegations from different countries have participated. Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif is invited to the meeting as a special guest. In his speech, Zarif will explain Iran’s viewpoints on international security. Paguash is an international non-governmental organization that gather the elites from different countries in the world and most of the participants are influential in decision making in their own countries. Paguash conference was established in 1957, during Cold War by Joseph Rotblat and a number of scientists opposed to war and trying to reduce nuclear arsenals and non-proliferation of mass destruction weapons. Paguash is the name of a village in Canada, where the first meeting of this kind took placed. The group and its founder received Nobel Peace Prize in 1995./end
