Devastating storms hit southeast Qld

Residents in southeast Queensland have begun reporting damage to their homes after
storms swept across the region bringing heavy rain, devastating winds and large
hailstones.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) issued a warning on Sunday afternoon for the
Redlands, Brisbane, Logan, Southern Downs, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley and
Scenic Rim council areas.
The BoM said very severe thunderstorms were forecast to affect Logan Village and
Redbank Plains by 4.10pm (AEST) and Beenleigh, Logan City and Wacol by 4.40pm.
Very dangerous thunderstorms were forecast to affect Archerfield, Slacks Creek and
Tingalpa Reservoir by 4.25pm and Brisbane CBD, Ipswich and Cleveland before 5pm.
Other severe thunderstorms were predicted to affect Oakey by 4.25pm and the area
northwest of Toowoomba and Haden by 4.55pm.
Damaging winds, very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones were
likely, the BoM said.
Earlier, hail and 70mm of rainfall was recorded in just 30 minutes at Wonglepong, in
the Gold Coast hinterland.
Twenty calls for help had been received from that area as at 3.30pm, an emergency
services spokeswoman said.
Most were related to roof damage.
Meanwhile, a more general warning is current for the Darling Downs and Granite Belt,
southeast coast and parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett districts
