Lao Airlines buys a plane

(KPL) The Aircraft International Rental Company of France transferred ownership of a ATR 72 aircraft to Lao Airlines on 13 November. The same aircraft was leased to Lao Airlines nine years ago and it has been in service for this period in Laos.
A hand-over ceremony was held at the Lao Plaza hotel to commemorate this event in Vientiane Capital last Thursday. The important people who were at this ceremony were Mr Mr Sithong Thongkeo, Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Mrs Viengthong Siphandone, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Finance, Mr Yakua Lopangkao, Director General of Department of Lao Civil Aviation, Dr Somphone Douangdara, President of the Lao Airlines and Mr Meusieur Serge Dominique, Senior Vice President of Leasing and Assessment of France.
This aircraft has flown 28,600 hours for the last nine years and so it can still fly for another 41,400 hours as its total permissible total flight hours is 70,000 hours.
Dr Somphone Douangdara, President of the Lao Airlines said that so far the this company had paid the 96 cash instalments and an additional US$1.1 million to the French aircraft leasing company for the plane and that makes this Lao airline the sole owner of the plane.
He also said that six planes are being used by Lao Airlines, the French-made ATR and Chinese-manufactured MA 60 planes. These planes are well suited to the terrain in Laos, which has many mountains.
However, Lao Airlines is aiming to buy the Boeing and Airbus planes for long distance flights and it is accumulating money for such a purpose, Dr Somphone said at this ceremony.
