Thai government to organise ‘White Power Stopping Violence’
BANGKOK, November 16 (TNA) - As several anti-government rallies have continued in Bangkok and upcountry, the Thai government has decided to organise a ‘White Power Stopping Violence’ day on November 17, aimed at ridding violence against women, children in families and even in the society.
Speaking during the weekly TV and radio programme of Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Saturday, Social Development and Human Security Minister Paveena Hongsakul said that Sunday's event will be held at the Royal Thai Air Force Stadium in Lam Luk Ka area on the outskirts of Bangkok, in which women, children and the elderly who are determined to rid violence in the society are welcome to participate.
Touching on a whistle blowing by people attending a mass demonstration organised by Thailand's main opposition Democrat Party in Bangkok’s Rajadamnoen Avenue, Paveena noted that it is also considered a violent manner and it is unethical, suggesting that any political movement can be carried out through respecting each other’s rights.
As every November 25 is designated by the United Nations as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the well-known female Thai minister urged Thai people to join in stopping violence everyday, not only for the day, but for throughout the year. (TNA)
