Laos, China sign three MoUs on trade and gold investment

(KPL) The Lao and Chinese governments signed three memorandums of understanding on trade, the handover of rubber saplings and investment in gold mining in Vientiane on 13 November.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Standing Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad, a Politburo member of Communist Party of China and Party Chief of Tianjin, Mr Zhang Gaoli, and Vientiane Mayor Sombat, Yialiheu.
The MoUs between Vientiane and Tianjin, was signed by the two deputy mayors of the two cities, Vientiane and Tianjin. The aims of the MoUs are to strengthen the existing comprehensive cooperation between Laos and China, with an emphasis on the promotion of economy and trade between Vientiane and Tianjin on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.
The two sides agreed on a wide range of issues, such as the exchange of visits of high-ranking officials from the two sides and the facilitation of businessmen to invest and trade in one another’s territory. The second MoU was the handover of 1.2 million rubber saplings, worth US$600,000 by Chongjing Hongjing Lao Mining Company to the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The last one was the MoU on gold mining in Ban Phabon, Pak-ou district, Luang Prabang province, between the Lao Government and the Tianjin Trade Company.
