Laos to receives World Peace Gong
(KPL) The Lao PDR is expected to receive the World Peace Gong on 22 November. The statement was released last Friday by a member of the Lao Committee for Peace and Solidarity.
According to Mr. Khamphanh Simmalavong, President of the Lao Committee for Peace and Solidarity, the World Peace Council of Indonesia will present the symbolic gong to Laos in recognition of the country’s security and stability and its positive contributions to international peace.
The World Peace Award has previously been given to India, China and Indonesia. The World Peace Council was formed in 1949 to promote peaceful coexistence and nuclear disarmament. Its 2008 congress was attended by 120 peace groups from 76 countries.
