MONGOLIAN LEADER GIVES LECTURE AT YANGON UNIVERSITY

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The President Ts.Elbegdorj Wednesday delivered a lecture at Yangon University of Myanmar. Mr Elbegdorj mentioned a visit by a grandson of Kublai Khan in the 17th century to Myanmar, establishment of Mongolia-Myanmar diplomatic relations in 1956, and Mongolians’ gratefulness for former Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) U Thant’s approval for Mongolia’s joining the UN in 1961. He also talked about historical, cultural, religion connections between our countries that the parts face a responsibility to develop further. The President also briefed on Mongolia’s economic and political transition since 1990, at which he actively took part. Mongolia is the only country in Asia that did these transitions at the same time defying the common belief that two transitions cannot be happened at once, he highlighted. Mr Elbegdorj also talked about the democratic system in Mongolia, where the State protects the people’s interests, before briefing on Mongolia’s efforts to support the democracy, citing establishment of an independent authority against corruption and initiation of an anti-corruption law. At his speech, our President highlighted women’s involvement in politics, which will be an important contribution to developing of the natural resources to ensure that every citizen benefit from it, as women or mothers give more meaning to equal sharing. Public policies on social welfare or protection should reflect kindness and tenderness of mothers, he said. Law enforcement was another subject the President touched upon. On the matter regarding the law enforcement, Mongolia refers at not only foreign expertize but also its own great history, as the Mongolians would equally respect their laws during the Great Mongol Empire period, he said. Myanmar might benefit from Mongolia’s democracy experience more than any other country, as our achievements and mistakes in comparably recent transitions are easy to be seen, he said. After the lecture, the President answered to questions the gathered asked.
