Women wrestlers win three medals at Golden Grand Prix

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Mongolian women wrestlers grabbed two silver and one bronze medal at the Final Golden Grand Prix that ran in Baku November 22-24. Our team’s medals came from E.Sumiya (51kg), T.Munkhtuya (59 kg) and B.Odonchimeg (72 kg), who beat most of their world-best rivals at the international wrestling event in memory of the Azerbaijan President Heydar Aliyev. The Mongolian coaches pinned their gold medal hopes on world champion S.Battsetseg (63 kg) whose most intimidating opponent Japanese Kaoro Icho earlier announced not to attend the event. However the hopes thwarted by her first round defeat to Japanese young wrestler Rio Watari. At the women’s 63 kg event, the gold medal went to Latvian A.Grigorieva, who this year won championship titles at the Krasnoyarsk Golden Grand Prix and the European Championship. The Grand Prix run at three categories of freestyle, Greko-Roman and female Wrestling with participation of some 300 wresters from 35 countries, who have won at least one medal at an international event. Along with our women team, who had invited there, our wrestler E.Nyam-Ochir won a right to compete in men’s 60 kg event.
