Malaysia-Brunei Bridge To Open On Dec 8

LIMBANG (Sarawak, Malaysia), Nov 20 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Razak and Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei will open the toll-free Malaysia-Brunei Bridge linking Limbang District, Sarawak and Temburong District, Brunei on Dec 8. Works Minister Fadillah Yusof said the date was decided at a Cabinet meeting recently. "Spurred by the opening of the RM25 million (US$8.3 million) bridge, the Works Ministry will upgrade infrastructure in Limbang and Lawas," he said at a briefing by the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) here Friday. He said the Sarawak Public Works Department would be allocated RM140 million (US$46.6 million) by the ministry to upgrade infrastructure in Limbang and another RM70 million (US$23.3 million) for Lawas. The bridge will facilitate travel between the east Malaysian states of Sarawak, Sabah and Brunei and cut down a five-hour ferry ride across Sungai Pandaruan to merely five minutes. -- BERNAMA
