Thai PM Cancels Weekend Activities As Anti-Government Protests Continue

BANGKOK, November 30 (TNA) – Thailand’s Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Saturday cancelled her activities and decided to stay home as anti-government protesters plan to step up their campaigns nationwide to oust her administration. Miss Yingluck was reportedly monitoring movements of protesters at her residence on the outskirt of Bangkok amid tight security around her house. Her security officers are believed to have been dispatched to gather information on demonstrators’ movements while police have set up checkpoints on roads leading to her residence. A large number of policemen are seen patrolling around the house. Political tensions in the country have increased considerably after the protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban told protesters late Friday to start seizing more government offices Saturday and Sunday. Mr. Suthep also urged civil servants and state enterprises workers to stay home next Monday in order to interrupt government’s works. Meanwhile, the number of demonstrators gathering at Bangkok’s Democracy Monument has started to increase. They were awaiting orders from leaders on where to march, especially on Sunday. (TNA)
