In a statement to the Dubai Government Media Office on the occasion of the UAE's winning the bid to host the World Expo 2020, Sheikh Mohammad expressed his pride in the huge response to the World Expo 2020 voting process that took place in Paris on November 27, noting that the event was closely followed by the world through various media networks. Sheikh Mohammed said, "The UAE's win brought happiness to every Emirati and resident's home", adding that they celebrated the accomplishment side by side with Emiratis by hanging the UAE flag on the roofs and doors of their homes, their cars, as well as expressing their joy through tweets and social media websites. He underlined that the UAE is a country of the future and winning the bid to host the World Expo 2020 reflects the confidence the world puts in the nation and its people, as the voting process was carried out by nations and governments, not individuals or corporations. He said that nations worldwide voted for the UAE because they see it as an advanced country that is open to the world.
