MPS LEG UNIVERSITY AND SCHOOLS

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A head of the parliamentary Standing committee on social policy, education, culture and science Z.Bayanselenge together with Yo.Otgonbayar and S.Ganbaatar MPs got acquainted with a university and schools on Wednesday. The MPs aim was to witness an implementation of the laws on education, on senior high education and on higher education. Having got au fait with the situation, they intend to work out a recommendation to the Standing committee. The MPs legged the Khan-Uul district's American School. It opened in 2006, has now 520 pupils educating them on the Canadian and American standards. Eighty percent of the pupils are Mongolians, the rest are foreigners. The MPs noted that this school has not realized the school uniform rule of Mongolia, and that lessons on Mongolian language are given less time than must be. Mr Otgonbayar stated that Mongolia needs to have a legal environment for schools with a special mixed programme. After this, the parliamentarians legged Politechnic College for Productions and Creative Works in Sukhbaatar district. The college’s director P.Tsegmid said that they put a goal to become a school that "gives birth" to Mongolian handcrafts, and to deliver the Mongolian national cultural heritage. As of today, 1,400 students are studying in the college, 80% of them are from low-income families or are orphans, so they are freed from tuition fee. "Our college needs a psychologist teachers to deal with students with disabilities," a training manager Bayaraa said. In response, S.Ganbaatar appreciated the college’s goals and promised to give a support. Next visit was made to Mongolia's State University (MSU). The MPs were met by A.Galtbayar, a rector, B.Ochirkhuyag, a director in charge of training affairs, and J.Batkhuu, a director for scientific works and innovation affairs. They said the university has an aim to become a research work-oriented university and to pay a special attention to improving of a quality of research works. Noting that there many problems to tackle urgently, Z.Bayanselenge MP said her Standing committee will discuss them soon.
