Analyst Says Entire World Expected To Implement Iran’s WAVE Proposal

Islamabad, Dec 30, IRNA -- A Pakistani senior analyst on Sunday said that entire world should appreciate Iran’s World Against Violence and Extremism (WAVE) act and work closely with the Islamic Republic of Iran to implement the resolution. Talking to IRNA Lieutenant General (retd) Abdul Qayyum said that adoption of the WAVE resolution shows that Iran is a major country of the world that represents the sentiments of Islamic world. On December 18, President Hassan Rouhani’s proposal calling for the World Against Violence and Extremism (WAVE) was approved by the UN General Assembly with 190 positive votes. The WAVE Act calls on all nations across the globe to denounce violence and extremism. The Iranian President made the proposal in his address to the UN Disarmament Conference in New York on September 25. Abdul Qayyum said that WAVE act is an initiative which should be appreciated by the entire world. He said that the WAVE act proposed by an Islamic country also shows that Muslims are peaceful people. He said that extremism is not done always by non-state actors but by some western countries also. He added that what is happening in Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan is form of extremism of western powers. The analyst said that adoption of World Against Violence and Extremism (WAVE) act by the UN is also the success of Iranian diplomacy. Abdul Qayyum said that implementation of the WAVE act would restore peace to the world. He added that Iran is a peaceful country and wants to play its role to bring stability to the world. Abdul Qayyum is a retired 3 star general of Pakistan Army. He appears frequently in television talk shows and is a well-known critic of American foreign policies pertaining to Pakistan./end
