Celebration of Vientiane as country’s capital discussed

(KPL) Vientiane administration met last week to review the progress of preparations for the celebration of the 450th anniversary of the proclamation of Vientiane as the national capital and the organisation of the 25th SEA Games-2009.
Present at the meeting was the newly appointed Vientiane Mayor, Mr Sombath Yialiheu. The meeting highlighted the progressing works Vientiane administration and residents have carried out such as the “Vientiane 450-year history book”, that 60 per cent of the construction of the SEA Games Stadium has been carried out and the restoration of the oldest temple of the capital - Vat Sisaket. Almost 580 million kip and USD 2,697, THB 135,160 and EUR 15 and 100 Hong Kong dollars have been donated for the restoration of the temple. The restoration is expected to be over in September 2009.
The Mekong Riverside Development Project is part of the preparation for the celebration. The project is planned to achieve 20 per cent of the target in 2009 and be over in 2013. In addition to the preparations, the 450th Year Road connecting Dongdok and Dongphosy is under construction, which is now 30 per cent completed.
The construction is scheduled to complete in June 2010.
