MALAYSIAN FOOD PROMOTION IN CHENNAI

CHENNAI, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- It was a food galore at the week-long
Malaysian
Kitchen and Cultural Fest to promote the lip-smacking traditional Malaysian
cuisine in this southern Indian city.

"This is to enhance cultural relationship between Malaysia and the state of
Tamil Nadu, and India in general. Basically we want to promote Malaysian
food abroad to attract foreign tourists to the country," the Malaysian Consul
General here, Anuar Kasman, told Bernama after launching the event at a leading
hotel.

Presenting the "Truly Asian Flavours" direct from the kitchens of Malaysia
is Tourism Malaysia, along with the consulate-general and Malaysia Airlines
(MAS).

The food ranges from the irresistibly aromatic to the succulently sumptuous
satay, fish head curry, beef rendang, ox-tail soup, chicken rice and and nasi
lemak.

Chef Mohamad Nasir Abu Hassan of was specially flown in to prepare the food
for the event from Nov 17 to 23.

About 140,000 visitors from southern India visited Malaysia last
year.
