Firearms import licenses will be granted to five firms
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Government Tuesday submitted a revised law on firearms to parliament.
The law revision follows a need to classify the registration of the firearms used in the country according to their intended use, and to allocate to relevant authorities.
Nationwide, Mongolia registered 40,894 firearms in 2010, 43,768 in 2011, and the number continued to increase to 44,764 in 2012; observing an annual average increase of 2,000 in the firearms acquisition.
In 2013, a total of 46,982 firearms, including hunting rifles (44,306), guard defense weapons, shooting sports guns, showpiece guns and collection weapons (119) registered in relevant authorities.
In order to reverse the weaker scrutiny and monitoring over firearms trade, the revised law states minimum number of companies to be awarded with licenses to import firearms to the country. The firms given rights to imports firearms shall not be permitted to sell guns, according to the revised law on firearms, which will be discussed at a parliamentary session near time.
