APEC 2008`S CURIOUS FACTS PROVIDES LIGHT-HEARTED RELIEF AT LIMA From Mikhail Raj Abdullah

LIMA (Peru), Nov 21 (Bernama) -- South Korea has drafted a set of ethical rules that seek to prevent abuse of robots by humans and vice versa, a statement at the ongoing Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) meeting says.

The Korean cities of Incheon and Masan would also be the first in the world
to have a theme park dedicated to robots, the statement, made available at the
Apec media centre at the Ministry of Defence here, says.

The statement on the "curious facts of Apec member economies" makes for
light-hearted relief amid a barrage of press releases issued daily on serious
matters regarding Apec.

Elsewhere, the three-page statement, notes that 70 per cent of Russians
keep
their savings at home, which amounts to a staggering US$20-US$50
billion.

Incidentally, Russia hosts the Apec summit in 2012 in Vladivostok and
hopefully by then, more Russians would have greater faith in their
banks.

Malaysia too made to the curious facts list, whereby the First World Hotel
in Genting, highland resort, was reportedly the world's largest hotel with
6,000 rooms.

Brunei's Sultan Haji Hassanal is the only leader from Apec's member
economies who has attended all the summits since the inaugural gathering in
Seattle in 1989.

As for China, the statement says that "Li" is the most popular surname
there
with nearly 96 million people sharing it.

As for Japan, its people are the largest consumers of fish, and the first
Japanese immigrants arrived in Peru -- which is hosting this year's Apec -- on
April 3, 1899.

Peru is the largest producer of fishmeal, thanks largely to the Peruvian
sea
being one the richest on earth due to the convergence of two currents, the
Humboldt (cold) and the Nino (warm).
