Iran Sees Prospects Of Growth In European Demand For Natural Gas

Tehran, Feb 5, IRNA – Deputy Oil Minister for International and Commercial Affairs Ali Majedi said on Tuesday that expert studies about prospects of natural gas market indicate growth in European demand for natural gas. “Per capita energy consumption growth is about 0.7 percent a year as basic growth in the energy generation will lower by 1.6 percent in 2030. This makes it imperative for Iran to focus on future energy consumption worldwide with the priority given to meeting Europe’s energy shortage,” said Majid in an address to a conference underway in Tehran on Iran-France Economic Cooperation. He reiterated that gas consumption in the world will rise by 60 percent by 2030. Natural gas has given a lion’s share in the energy consumption growth, said the official, adding that despite Europe’s efforts to minimize dependence on the oil and gas imports by 2030, the region will continue to need oil and gas imports. “Europe will continue to spot Middle East for the imports and the European energy shortage will remain fixed as gas consumption will continue growing by 60 percent.”/end
