S. Korea, Singapore agree to deepen economic cooperation

LIMA, Nov. 22 (Yonhap) -- South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and Singaporean
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong agreed to widen bilateral cooperation on the
global financial crisis and other economic fields, including defense, during
their bilateral summit held on the sidelines of the APEC forum here on Saturday.
President Lee discussed the outcome of the Group of 20 financial summit in the
U.S. last week and asked for the Singaporean leader's help in overcoming the
global financial crisis and preventing the spread of trade protectionism, aides
for the president said.
The president also invited Prime Minister Lee to attend a special summit between
South Korea and 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations,
scheduled to take place on South Korea's Jeju Island in June 2009. The
Singaporean leader accepted the invitation, the aides said.
In addition, President Lee asked for Singapore's support of South Korea's entry
into the Financial Stability Forum (FSF), they noted.
The FSF was created in February 1999 to promote stability in significant
international financial centers through enhanced information exchange and
international cooperation in financial supervision and surveillance.
