Length of Saudi Roads crosses 178,000 Kilometers mark
Riyadh, November 23, SPA -- The length of the roads constructed in
the Kingdom up to the fiscal year 1427-1428 AH amounted to more than
178,000 kilometers including 54,000 kilometer of the asphalted roads.
The most important roads include Riyadh-Taif road (750 kilometers),
Makkah-Madinah road (421 kilometers), Jeddah-Makkah road (60
kilometers), Riyadh-Sudeir-Qassim road (317 kilometers),
Riyadh-Dammam road (383 kilometers), and Madinah-Tabuk road (680
kilometers).
Currently, arrangements are underway to implement 325 road projects
at a total cost of more than SR 14.117 billion in various parts of
the Kingdom.
Meanwhile, the Saudi officials have been giving great attention to
the transport sector.
In 1399 AH, a Royal decree was issued for the establishment of the
Saudi Arabia Public Transport Company (SAPTCO). The fleet of SAPTCO
has jumped to 3, 095 buses of various sizes.
In order to improve the standard of road safety, the Ministry of
Transport has established 13 administrations to undertake the
supervision of the maintenance of the road projects.
On the other hand, the Saudi Government has been giving great
attention to roads that link the Kingdom with its neighboring
countries like Yemen, Kuwait, Jordan,, Qatar, the Untied Arab
Emirates and Oman.
Late King Fahd bin Abdulaziz inaugurated on 24/3/1407 (Nov 25, 1987)
the causeway that links the Kingdom with Bahrain.
