HUGE RESPONSE FOR BC SEKHAR MEMORIAL LECTURE BY BILL CLINTON
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- More than 8,000 people have requested to
attend the BC Sekhar Memorial Lecture to be delivered by former United States
President Bill Clinton here on Dec 6 but the present venue can only accommodate
500.
Sekhar Foundation founder and chairman Vinod Sekhar said the foundation was
looking for a bigger venue which can accommodate more than 1,000 people.
Ballots will be drawn in the next few days to decide on the
attendees.
"I am determined that as many people as possible will get the chance to see
Clinton in person. He is an inspiration to me and millions of others around the
world.
"The requests for places at the lecture underline his global popularity and
I am just sorry that it will be impossible to accommodate everyone who wishes to
attend," he said in a statement Sunday.
Besides delivering the talk, Clinton is also scheduled to receive the BC
Sekhar Medal for Transformational Leadership, an award given to global leaders
who have demonstrated a track record in bringing about positive change to the
lives of people.
The BC Sekhar Memorial Lecture is in honour of Dr B.C. Sekhar, described as
an icon of the plantation industry, who died on Sept 6 2006 at the age of
77.
