Russia can provide Japanese partners with competitive conditions for business in the Far East--RF Deputy Minister
TOKYO, March 19 (Itar-Tass) - Russia can and is prepared to provide Japanese partners with competitive conditions for the transaction of business in the Far East, Maxim Shereikin, RF Deputy Minister for the Development of the Far East, told a plenary session of the 6th Russia-Japan investment forum that opened here on Wednesday.
"Our Ministry was brought into being precisely for improving the situation with the investment climate in the Far East," Shereikin emphasized. "The establishment of the so-called socio-economic priority development territories is the main mechanism for the accomplishment of these tasks".
The priority development territories constitute special economic zones of an utterly new type, on the creation of which the Russian side is currently working".
The Deputy Minister stressed that territories of Russia's Far East are notable mainly for the fact that China and South Korea are locarted near them. Those two countries are known for special framework conditions for the transaction of business".
"The Far Eastern market proper is very small and, maybe, is not so interesting to Japanese investors," Shereikin pointed out. "However, good conditions, a qualitative infrastructure and a quality governance of those territories are precisely the factors in the creation of conditions for the conduct of a competitive business which we can offer to our Japanese partners".
The 6th Russia-Japan investment forum opened in the Japanese capital on Wednesday with the participation of over 700 government officials and business executives of the two countries. Matters aimed at improving the investment climate in the RF and at opening up new areas of investment-related cooperation between the two countries are under discussion within the scope of the forum.
