Thailand's regional airports welcome rising visitors

BANGKOK, March 25 (TNA) - The number of international visitors who have arrived at Thailand's regional airports has been growing in a high level. Deputy Government Spokeswoman Sunisa Lertpakawat told journalists of the information on Tuesday, after the Cabinet's weekly meeting in Bangkok's adjacent Nakhon Pathom Province. The deputy government spokeswoman acknowledged, however, that the number of overall international visitors to Thailand increased by only 0.06 per cent in January 2014 and dropped by 8.15 per cent and 8.45 per cent in February and March respectively due to persistent domestic political problems. According to the deputy spokesperson, Caretaker Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has, thus, assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to restore the confidence of international travelers as soon as possible. Besides, the caretaker prime minister ordered agencies concerned to quickly solve domestic economic problems, after the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board (ONESDB) reported that Thailand's industrial production dropped by 7.4 per cent and agricultural production increased by only 3.2 per cent in January 2014, while Thai exports, investment and agriculture are declining.
