Mongolia begins to use traditional script in official affairs
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A website of the Mongolian President (president.mn) can be now read in Mongolian traditional script.
Visitors of the website will access this version (president.mn/mng/) using Internet Explorer browser and without installing specific fonts to their computers.
In July of 2010, the President Ts.Elbegdorj issued a decree to promote the use of the traditional Mongolian script, and this decree came into force July 1 of 2011. All official letters by President, Speaker, Prime Minster and members of cabinet to officials of other countries shall be written in the traditional Mongolian script and be translated to the language of that country or any of the official languages of the United Nations and be attached. Moreover, measures launched to attach the traditional script copies to all ID cards, birth certificates, other certificates and diplomas of all level educational organizations.
The 1,000-year traditional script is the precious heritage of the Mongolians, perhaps it is considered as one of the genres of fine arts thanks to its unique calligraphy. In 2013, the script's calligraphy art was registered in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
