EU Parliamentˈs Anti-Iran Resolution Baseless: Spokeswoman

Tehran, April 5, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Marzieh Afkham, said on Friday that endorsement of a resolution regarding ties with Iran and human rights situation in the country by the EU parliament is ˈunfounded and unacceptable.ˈ According to Foreign Ministryˈs Media Diplomacy Department, Afkham added that the fact that a number of hardline MPs in the EU parliament have undertaken efforts to adopt an imperative stance and continue an ambitious trend, which is rooted in ancient timesˈ thoughts, does not agree with any political and international criterion and logic. Furthermore, it recalls the dark history of discriminatory and racism history, she added. Such acts will undermine the new trend of ties between Iran and the EU, she added. Afkham further noted that they cannot decide for a country, which despite illegal pressures and sanctions has shown through resistance and reliance on its nation that the West has no option but to respect the demands of the great Iranian nation. She also recommended the EU parliament to find ways for developing mutual understanding and more favorable conditions based on mutual respect instead of eliminating the existing areas of cooperation. Illogical insistence on ambitious methods and repeating tested manners amounts to moving on a wrong path, she said. The individuals and the groups and their relevant countries are not in a position to decide for the rest of the world by adopting double-standard criteria as well as selective and racist attitudes towards the new realities across the world, Afkham said./end
