Western policy ‘new edition’ of course for Russia’s deterrence

MOSCOW, April 11 (Itar-Tass) - An anti-Russian policy that several countries pursue is “a new edition” of a course for Russia’s deterrence, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a meeting with representatives of Russian research-and-production associations in the Russian capital on Friday. “In reply to our efforts to observe principles of international law and creation of a common security system we faced a policy of spreading West’s geopolitical influence on the East which actually became a new edition of a course for Russia’s deterrence,” the minister said. “I note that an intention to present the affair in the way that serious problems in relations between Russia, the United States and the European Union had emerged as a result of current Ukrainian crisis are groundless. “It is enough to recall events of the last few years - a creeping NATO expansion despite promises that they have made, attempts to introduce sanction lists under different pretexts and unleashing of an information campaign against Russia recently,” Lavrov added.
