No GRU, FSB agents in Ukraine, no answer from US about CIA chief’s trip to Kiev - Lavrov

MOSCOW, April 14 (Itar-Tass) - In Ukraine there are no agents of the Russian General Staff’s intelligence directorate GRU or federal security service FSB Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in Moscow on Monday. Nor has there been any reasonable explanations from Washington regarding the CIA chief’s trip to Kiev, he added. “There are no agents from either GRU or the FSB. We have been reproached this is not so. [US Secretary of State] John Kerry said this to me several times, [Ukraine’s acting Foreign Minister Andrei] Deshitsa has been claiming the same, that they have arrested somebody there. I told him last Saturday - ‘If you have really arrested somebody, then show us this man.’ For some reason they have not done this yet.” “Now they have been saying that if there is a four-party meeting, everything will be shown there. This means that they need a scandal at the meeting, that they have some casual assorted quasi-facts picked up somewhere. If there are facts, then you should not be shy to present them. If you are too shy to present them, then you have no facts.” “Alongside this we would like to realize what our western counterparts have been doing in reality. In particular, we would like to realize what the rumours of an urgent trip to Kiev by the director of the CIA are all about,” Lavrov said. “We do not interfere in the internal affairs of Ukraine. That would run counter to our interests.” “Since the moment the key figures in today’s Ukraine started talking aloud in an ultimatum-like fashion about the use of force, we have insistently demanded that our partners, in the first place, the United States, should call those personalities to order and to prevent such a scenario,” Lavrov said. “Yesterday we held an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, where on the basis of a Russian Foreign Ministry statement we raised the question it was utterly impermissible to connive with the show of muscle and demanded putting an end to such activity. Today we shall hold a special OSCE meeting.” Learn more on itar-tass.com
