Nicaragua disapproves of sanctions against Russia - president

MANAGUA, April 30 (Itar-Tass) - Nicaragua does not support West’s sanctions against Russia over Ukraine, President Daniel Ortega said at talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday. “It is absolutely clear that the position of the United States and the European Union with their sanctions and pressure is a wrong way,” he said. “Peaceful settlement and compliance with international law are necessary. This is the only way for the humankind to survive, as it is in danger,” the president added. “Sanctions just make the region, and even the whole world, less stable and secure,” the president said. Russia values Nicaragua’s support on the situation in Ukraine, RF Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said. “In the situation that has been created in the world today it is very important for us to compare positions with our friends and co-ordinate actions,” Lavrov said. “We have a common stance on international problems, we call for exclusively collective action without the attempts to isolate anybody, we are for actions based on respect for international law.” “We invariably support Nicaragua in international organisations and for our part value its support on a number of issues, including the situation in Transcaucasia and Ukraine,” the Russian foreign minister added.
