DPM receives UN Assistant Secretary General

(KPL) Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongloun Sisoulith, on Tuesday at his office in Vientiane, received the United Nations Assistant Secretary General Ajay Chhibber.
Mr. Ajay was in Laos for the Roundtable Meeting 2008, in Vientiane, which is the annual event on the co-operation between Laos and international donors.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed thanks to the UN for its cooperation and assistance to Laos, especially assistance for implementing the government plans for its socio-economic development, poverty reduction, the movement of the Roundtable Meeting, Good Governance, UXO, legal improvement in line with international conditions and the strengthening of the Lao National Assembly. The UN provides over US$3 million to help restore the living conditions of flood victims in Laos this year. The Foreign Minister also reaffirmed the Lao government’s commitment to achieve the millennium development goals, set to be achieved in couples of years by the United Nations.
Mr Ajay Chhibber, expressed congratulations on successful holding of the annual Roundtable Meeting of the Lao government and the progressive implementation of its fifth socio-economic development plan, which is contributing to realising its Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
He also appreciated the Lao government on its reportage on the progressive implementation of MDGs at the Roundtable Meeting in this month.
